Myanmar President Win Myint Released Under Amnesty

Myanmar’s Former President U Win Myint has been released today, Myanmar New Year’s Day, after being granted amnesty.

According to reports from state-aligned media, junta leader and newly elected president Min Aung Hlaing reduced the remaining sentences against Win Myint and granted him amnesty, allowing him to return to his family.

Win Myint had been sentenced to a total of nine years and six months in prison under multiple charges, including four cases and Section 130(a), following the military coup.

Under the amnesty, his remaining prison terms were reduced, leading to his release from detention.
