Myanmar Military Spent Over $4.16 Million on Fuel for Airstrikes in Three Months

22 March 2026 | New Day Myanmar

Myanmar’s military junta, which has been carrying out repeated aerial bombings on civilian areas across the country, spent more than $4.16 million (approximately 14.56 billion kyats) on fuel for airstrikes over a three-month period, according to the Blood Money Campaign (BMC).

Based on BMC’s investigation, between June and September 2025, the junta consumed over 1.9 million gallons of aviation fuel for air operations, with total fuel costs exceeding $4.16 million.

The estimate is calculated using a global average price of $2.15 per gallon of jet fuel. However, the report noted that the military is likely paying higher prices due to international sanctions and logistical constraints.

The reported figure covers fuel costs only and does not include expenses for munitions, weapons, or aircraft maintenance, meaning the actual cost of air operations is likely significantly higher.

According to the findings, the junta has been using fighter jets such as Su-30, MiG-29, and JF-17 to carry out airstrikes targeting civilian areas. Each aircraft consumes fuel worth millions of kyats per hour of flight.

For example, the fuel cost for operating a single Su-30 fighter jet for one hour is estimated at over 16 million kyats (16,125,000 kyats), an amount that could otherwise provide food assistance to thousands of displaced families.
