At the opening session of the third Union Parliament, Speaker U Aung Lin Dwe announced that the process to elect the President and Vice Presidents will begin on March 30.
According to the announcement, the President and Vice Presidents will be selected in accordance with the law by three groups of parliamentary representatives: the Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House) representatives, the Amyotha Hluttaw (Upper House) representatives, and the military-appointed representatives aligned with the junta.
Each of the three groups will nominate their candidates and submit the list of names to Union Parliament Speaker U Aung Lin Dwe, after which the President and Vice Presidents will be elected.
Under the structure of the Union Parliament, during the first 30 days of the parliamentary term, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw will serve as the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Union Parliament.
At today’s opening session of the Union Parliament, held by the junta on March 20, a total of 420 elected representatives from the Pyithu Hluttaw and Amyotha Hluttaw, along with 166 military-appointed representatives, were in attendance.
