TNLA Accuses Junta of Using Chemical Gas Bombs in Naungcho Clashes

July 5, 2024

The PSLF/TNLA (Palaung State Liberation Front/Ta’ang National Liberation Army) has accused the Myanmar military junta of using chemical gas bombs during clashes in Naungcho Township. According to a statement released by the TNLA, the junta forces deployed three chemical gas bombs during an attack on their positions.

The incident reportedly took place on June 4, around 2:00 PM, at the junta’s 606 Rocket Battalion base in Naungcho Township, Ta’ang Region Military Division 2. The TNLA alleges that the Myanmar military used chemical weapons to repel their forces.

As a result of the chemical attack, eight TNLA soldiers experienced symptoms consistent with chemical exposure, including rapid breathing, heightened anxiety, fatigue, decreased oxygen levels, and general discomfort. The affected soldiers are currently receiving medical treatment.

The TNLA also claimed that the junta had used a total of four chemical gas bombs during their assaults, with one bomb deployed on June 1 and three more on June 4.

This use of chemical weapons, if verified, would mark a significant and concerning escalation in the conflict between the TNLA and the Myanmar military. The international community has long condemned the use of chemical weapons due to their indiscriminate and devastating impact on human health.
