Myanmar’s Min Aung Hlaing Vows Full Protection for Chinese Projects and Citizens

Myanmar’s military-backed President Min Aung Hlaing has pledged to fully protect Chinese investment projects and interests in Myanmar during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Naypyidaw.

At the meeting held on April 25, Min Aung Hlaing said effective measures would be taken to ensure the security of Chinese citizens, organizations, and projects in Myanmar, and that no activities harming China’s interests would be allowed within Myanmar’s territory.

He also said Myanmar would continue to crack down on online gambling and scam operations, known locally as “Kyar Phyant,” until they are completely eliminated, as they undermine stability along the two countries’ border.

Min Aung Hlaing added that Myanmar will continue to uphold the One China Policy and actively support Chinese President Xi Jinping’s global initiatives, including the Global Development Initiative (GDI), Global Security Initiative (GSI), Global Civilization Initiative (GCI), and Global Governance Initiative.

In response, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China would firmly support Myanmar’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national reconciliation process, and would continue assisting Myanmar’s development.
