In response to the Myanmar military’s deliberate airstrikes and attacks on schools, hospitals, and other civilian areas, the National Unity Government (NUG) has issued a directive to temporarily suspend ground-based schools operating under its recognition and collaboration.

According to the announcement, the junta has been repeatedly targeting educational and healthcare facilities using aerial bombs, machine guns, and heavy artillery, committing what the NUG described as daily war crimes against humanity.

To protect the lives of students, teachers, and civilians, the Ministry of Education under the NUG has instructed all basic education schools, higher education institutions, and vocational training centers recognized and supported by the NUG to halt classes temporarily. The suspension will remain in place while safety measures are assessed and implemented.

The directive will remain effective until further notice, the NUG stated.
