The Myanmar junta announced on November 10 that it had arrested Nga Min Swe, a pro-military supporter, on charges of disrupting public peace and stability after he allegedly mocked military leader Min Aung Hlaing in social media posts.
Nga Min Swe was reportedly taken from his home in Kyaikto by the Kyaikto police on the morning of November 9. He later confirmed his detention during a live broadcast, stating that he is currently held at the Hlaing Township Police Station in Yangon, where authorities have opened a case against him under Section 505(a) for attempting to damage national unity and morale.
According to junta sources, Nga Min Swe, also known as U Min Swe from Phak Kalip village in Mon State’s Kyaikto Township, had been active on social media, using his Facebook account to post various comments critical of military leadership since October 27. In his posts, he wrote, “My beloved Myanmar people, I am Nga Min Swe. I will meet with the PDFs to bring peace to the whole country,” alongside a photo with the caption, “Senior General Nga Min Swe.”
He also posted statements such as, “Not a single victorious battle under the Senior General,” and, “Min Aung Hlaing can manage the economy by minting 10,000-kyat notes,” and further comments suggesting an imminent power shift.
