An airstrike by the junta’s air force targeted a facility controlled by the Mandalay People’s Defense Force (MDY PDF) on October 28 at approximately 6:30 p.m. The facility, which housed captured junta soldiers and other detainees, sustained heavy damage. According to MDY PDF’s statement, the attack resulted in the deaths of 12 individuals, including 8 junta captives, and left nearly 60 others injured.
The strike directly hit the compound housing the captives, known as “Bilu Squad” detainees, as well as other prisoners under MDY PDF’s custody. Despite efforts by the MDY PDF to detain these individuals in humane conditions, in accordance with wartime laws, the junta deliberately targeted the detention facility.
In response to the injuries sustained, MDY PDF has been providing medical assistance to the wounded detainees.
This incident follows a similar airstrike on September 9, where the junta’s air force bombed a prison in Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State, controlled by the Arakan Army (AA), leading to the death of over 50 detainees, including both military personnel and civilians.
