A Thai police sergeant has been arrested for the fatal shooting of a Myanmar national at Khon Kaen General Hospital on June 7. The incident occurred in the early morning while the victim, a 29-year-old Myanmar national, was admitted for an emergency surgery.
The Myanmar national, who had been playing mobile games late into the night, was reportedly causing disturbances and behaving rudely, which allegedly aggravated the police sergeant, whose father was being treated in the adjacent bed. The police sergeant admitted that he shot the victim out of frustration.
The police sergeant, who fled the scene after the shooting, was arrested on June 8. Khon Kaen Police Chief stated that the shooter, suffering from psychological stress and heart disease, confessed to the crime during his arrest. It was revealed that the police sergeant turned himself in following his father’s encouragement.
The Thai police have charged the sergeant with murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
