NUG Announces Amnesty for More Than 100 Prisoners

January 1, 2026

On the occasion of the New Year on January 1, the National Unity Government (NUG) announced that it has granted amnesty to 110 prisoners in prisons and detention camps, citing considerations for the interests of the Spring Revolution, public peace of mind, and humanitarian principles.

According to the announcement, the amnesty was granted under Section 401, Subsection (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code without imposing any conditions. The decision was officially approved and signed by NUG Acting President Duwa Lashi La.

In addition to the full amnesty granted to the 110 prisoners, the NUG also announced a sentence reduction for remaining inmates. Under the same legal provision, one-third of the prison terms currently being served by other prisoners has been remitted.
