The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has reportedly captured the 437th Battalion of the Myanmar military in Momauk Town, Kachin State, during an attack on the evening of August 19, according to military sources.
According to Major Naw Bu, the KIA’s spokesperson, the attack on the 437th Battalion began on July 24, and after weeks of continuous fighting, the KIA successfully overran the battalion on the evening of August 19.
The 437th Battalion, which was stationed with over 700 troops, suffered heavy casualties, with over 300 soldiers reportedly killed and nearly 400 injured during the battle.
The KIA has not yet released information regarding its own casualties.
The KIA is currently engaged in clearing operations, pursuing fleeing Myanmar military soldiers. During the battle, the KIA reportedly seized a tank and a large cache of weapons and ammunition.
