The Yangon Region People’s Defense Force (Yangon PDF) has announced preparations for urban military operations. Currently, security and area clearance responsibilities in the southern military region are being coordinated with ethnic revolutionary forces and units under the Ministry of Defense.
The Yangon PDF has organized five attack units, named Attack Units 1 through 5, in accordance with guidelines from the Ministry of Defense. These units are systematically structured and prepared for urban warfare. District special forces are managing operations, supported by township-level PDF units.
Since its inception in 2021, the Yangon PDF has executed various operations, including Operation Pyan Lwar Aung and Operation Nan Htaik Aung. In early 2024, the Yangon PDF successfully attacked a junta fuel tanker at Tteetan Port and carried out a bombing at the Yangon Regional Military Headquarters golf course.
The PDF’s ongoing efforts are focused on urban guerrilla warfare tactics to counter the junta’s forces effectively, leveraging the support of local communities and strategic planning for urban environments.
