Over 230 People Arrested in Yangon in February

At least 233 people were arrested in Yangon Region in February, according to the Rangoon Scout Network.

Of the 233 detainees, 54 have been released, while 8 have been confirmed to remain in custody. The status of the remaining 171 detainees is still unknown.

Breakdown of the arrests:

  • 106 people were arbitrarily detained on the streets,
  • 63 people were arrested after household guest list inspections,
  • 59 people were targeted and arrested based on specific intelligence,
  • 5 people were detained under unclear circumstances.

Among those arrested were three young activists accused of participating in anti-regime movements and protests. Additionally, five individuals were detained for allegedly supporting a street performance of the revolutionary song Yaung Ni by singer Lin Lin.

In a separate incident, two conscripts reportedly jumped off a naval vessel in Thanlyin Township to escape forced military service but were later recaptured.

On February 17, the junta began its 10th batch of military conscription training, forcibly sending over 500 recruits to training camps in Taikkyi and Hlegu Townships.
