This morning, around 10:30 AM, the military junta launched two consecutive airstrikes on Lashio, northern Shan State. The attack resulted in the death of one political prisoner and injuries to at least 13 people, according to local sources.
A statement from the Lashio Reconstruction Committee confirmed that the junta targeted the General Administration Office, a non-military site, causing significant damage. Among the injured were civil servants from the office, and nearby civilian homes and buildings were also destroyed.
“A bomb landed near the tea shop in front of the General Administration Office. There were many people nearby at the time. At least 6 or 7 people were hit. The jet circled for quite a while after dropping the bombs. Some people in Lashio are preparing to flee,” a Lashio resident told New Day Myanmar.
This marks the third airstrike on Lashio within 11 days, with previous attacks occurring on August 30 and September 8. Lashio is currently controlled by the MNDAA (Kokang Army), and the city has been repeatedly targeted by military airstrikes.
