Almost 70,000 civilians were displaced in Tanintharyi Region during February alone as a result of escalating clashes and junta airstrikes, according to findings from the FE5 Tanintharyi roundtable discussion held today.
The discussion focused on recent conflict developments in the region, the impact on local communities, displacement trends, and the socio-economic situation.
Fighting reportedly intensified after the arrival of the junta’s Ka Ra Kha Military Command, with the military attempting to reclaim control of the Thai-Myanmar border trade route, sparking prolonged clashes.
FE5 Tanintharyi noted that in February alone, there were at least 66 battles and more than four mine attacks. Airpower was heavily utilized, with at least 22 aerial assaults, including fighter jets and helicopters.
As a result, the nearly 70,000 displaced civilians are now in urgent need of food and medical assistance, the group added.
