Nga Min Swe, a known supporter of the Myanmar military, was arrested on November 9 for posting satirical comments about the military leader on social media, according to sources. Prior to his arrest, Nga Min Swe (aka U Min Swe) had shared several posts on his social media page mocking the junta’s commander.
Some of his posts read, “May all beloved Myanmar citizens find peace, I am Nga Min Swe. I have met with the PDFs to work toward peace for the entire country,” and “Under the command of the Senior General, there hasn’t been a single military victory.” In another post, he stated, “Brother Hlaing is good at generating revenue for the country by producing 10,000-kyat notes,” and “Brother Hlaing, things are about to get tough if you come back from China.”
Nga Min Swe, who resides in Hlaing Myint Mo Housing in Hlaing Township, was charged under Article 505(c) of the Penal Code. He was reportedly apprehended by officers from the Kyat Khaing Police Station in Kyaikto Township, where he was located at the time.
