Many Myanmar nationals have donated blood for a police sergeant from the Mae Sot Police Station in Tak Province, Thailand, according to Thai journalists based in Mae Sot.
The police sergeant was seriously injured on January 20 after being shot by a suspect while conducting an operation to arrest individuals involved in illegal activities in Mae Sot.
On January 21, blood donation activities were held at Mae Sot General Hospital for the injured officer, with both Thai and Myanmar people participating.

One of the donors, Ms. Alice Honey, shared her experience:
“I donated blood for the police sergeant who was shot near a 7/11 store in Mae Sot. I went to the hospital simply because I wanted to help. While asking around for assistance, I found out that the person helping me was actually the sergeant’s wife. When I showed her the blood donation post and said I wanted to donate for her husband, she said, ‘I am his wife—come, I will fill out the form for you,’ and she personally helped me.
I told her how sorry I was about what had happened, and she replied, ‘It’s okay, no need to apologize. He is getting better, but he still needs further surgery.’”
The sergeant’s wife also said she was very happy that a Myanmar person had come to donate blood for her husband. She even proudly told the Thai friends who were with her, “Look, this Myanmar girl came to donate blood.”
The injured police sergeant is now out of life-threatening danger, although further medical treatment and surgery are still required.
