On the night of June 1, starting around 9 PM, the Myanmar military junta set fire to homes in Tedim town, Chin State, and continued to open fire with heavy and small arms until the morning of June 2.
The clashes between the junta forces and Chin resistance fighters began around 9 PM on June 1. Following the skirmish, junta soldiers set fire to homes in Lawibual ward, resulting in the destruction of over 80 houses. This marks the second time the junta has set fire to homes in Tedim.
Additionally, troops from Light Infantry Battalion 269 shelled and fired into the town until the following morning. The initial attack on Tedim town occurred on May 26, when the PDF-Zoland and Chinland Defense Forces launched an assault on junta positions, capturing nine junta soldiers and seizing two military camps.
Tedim town, which has four wards and a population of over 80,000 according to the 2014 census, now faces significant displacement, with many residents fleeing to the outskirts, Kalay region, and towards the India-Myanmar border in Rihkhawdar.
Local residents reported that two military helicopters delivered supplies, weapons, and reinforcements to Light Infantry Battalion 269 in Tedim on June 1. Ongoing clashes are reported near the town’s clock tower and in Lawibual ward.
As of now, Tedim is nearly deserted, with most of the population having fled to escape the conflict.
