July 22, 2024
Due to the ongoing health issues of Acting President Myint Swe, the National Defense and Security Council has announced the transfer of presidential duties to General Min Aung Hlaing, the head of the State Administration Council (SAC). The announcement, made on the evening of July 22, stated that Acting President Myint Swe is currently undergoing medical treatment and is unable to perform his daily responsibilities.
Recently, the SAC had officially declared that Myint Swe could no longer fulfill his national duties due to his deteriorating health, to the extent that he cannot manage his daily activities. This situation prompted the transfer of presidential responsibilities to General Min Aung Hlaing, especially as the end of his six-month term extension approaches at the end of July 2024.
As a result of this announcement, General Min Aung Hlaing now holds the positions of President, Prime Minister, and Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Services, consolidating significant power within a single individual.
This development marks a significant shift in Myanmar’s political landscape, highlighting the ongoing influence and control of the military over the nation’s governance.
