Former Air Force Chief of Staff Lt Gen (Ret.) Zaw Win Myint Appointed Myanmar Ambassador to China

January 6, 2025

Myanmar’s military leader has appointed former Air Force Chief of Staff Lt Gen Zaw Win Myint as Myanmar’s ambassador to China, according to sources.

Zaw Win Myint was transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in November 2025, and was formally reassigned as ambassador to China on January 6.

He was relieved of his post on November 25, with another officer from Air Force Headquarters taking over his position. He has now been appointed to the ambassadorial post in Beijing.

“This is an important position. At a time when the military is managing its relations with China very carefully, the role of ambassador is highly significant,” a source close to Naypyidaw told New Day Myanmar.

Within the Air Force hierarchy, the Chief of Staff is the second-highest-ranking position after the Commander-in-Chief (Air). Following his transfer from the military to a civilian role, Zaw Win Myint has now assumed the post of ambassador to China.
