March 25, 2025 – Yangon
Yangon’s Kamaryut District Court has ordered the fourth auction of the historic No. 54 University Avenue residence — the longtime home of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi — to proceed with a reduced starting bid of 270 billion kyats, following a request by U Aung San Oo, her estranged brother.
At the March 25 court session, the court approved a 27 billion kyat reduction from the previous reserve price of 297 billion kyats, after no buyers came forward during the previous three auctions.
The upcoming auction is scheduled for April 29.
Previously, the residence was offered at 315 billion kyats in the first auction, 300 billion kyats in the second, and 297 billion kyats in the third — all without attracting a buyer.
The National Unity Government (NUG) has declared the residence a national cultural heritage site, warning that any attempt to sell it as private property would be met with legal action.
