CDF-Tonzang Shuts Down Homes, Including Five Belonging to CDMers

August 15, 2024

Following the battle to reclaim Tonzang, CDF-Tonzang Battalion (1), part of the Chin Land Defense Force, has sealed off several homes in the township, including five belonging to Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) participants. This action has drawn strong opposition from the Tonzang Township Public Administration and the Township CDM Committee, which have demanded an immediate halt to the operation.

The sealed homes reportedly belong to government employees actively participating in the CDM against the military regime, and the committee views this as an unacceptable act against those who have firmly stood against authoritarianism.

The homes were reportedly sealed based on allegations that their owners supported other groups. The CDM Committee considers this action as oppressive and tyrannical, stating that it tarnishes the image of the democratic revolution.

Additionally, the committee has condemned the illegal arrests of CDM members’ family members and the extortion of between 200,000 to 300,000 Kyats from their families, calling these acts lawless and tyrannical.

The committee demands the immediate return of the seized homes to their rightful owners and insists that those responsible for these transgressions be held accountable according to democratic principles.
