Airstrikes in Madaya Township Leave Two Dead, Including a Child, and Four Injured Over Three Days

July 9, 2024

In Madaya Township, Mandalay Region, airstrikes conducted by the junta have resulted in the deaths of two civilians, including a child, and injuries to four others within three days. The attacks have forced thousands of local residents to flee their villages.

On July 9, around noon, the junta’s airstrikes hit Autfaw Village in Madaya Township, destroying two houses, killing a child, and injuring several others, according to the Red Dawn Spring group based in Madaya.

The recent airstrikes and artillery shelling by the junta have caused mass displacement of civilians in villages across Madaya Township. On the morning of July 7, an airstrike on Yone Pin Village in eastern Madaya killed a woman and injured four others, including two children.

Furthermore, on July 7 and 8, artillery shelling by the junta targeted Tan Ga Taung Village, resulting in the deaths of two civilians from Khin Village and Aung Kan Thar Village.

Since the beginning of Operation 1027 (Part 2) on June 25, the Mandalay PDF has been coordinating with Shan Man Operation, capturing at least 11 junta military bases in Madaya Township. The operation has led to the detention of 15 junta soldiers, including Deputy Commander Lieutenant Colonel Hlaing Htun Aung (OTC-19).

The escalation of violence in the region has heightened concerns over the safety of civilians and the increasing number of displaced persons seeking refuge from the ongoing conflict.
