Despite heightened security measures in Yangon, the Sanchaung Main Strike (SC Strike) group conducted an anti-junta protest on Martyrs’ Day, July 19. The protesters displayed a banner reading, “Dear Aung San, the people are crying because of the tyranny,” to voice their opposition against the military regime.
The leader of the SC Strike group explained the motivation behind the protest: “At this moment, the country is suffering immensely due to the violent coup led by Min Aung Hlaing. The nation is in chaos, and the people are facing severe hardships. We organized this protest in memory of General Aung San, who founded the military, and to express our sorrow and frustration over the current state of affairs.”
The protest highlighted the ongoing resistance against the military dictatorship, drawing attention to the plight of the people under the junta’s rule. Despite the risks, demonstrators continue to express their dissent and call for a return to democracy.
