The Myanmar military junta is working on an online system to manage personal information of young people eligible for military service, according to the Defense Minister’s statement during a meeting yesterday. The meeting of the National Service Drafting Central Committee (Meeting 6/2024) was held in Naypyidaw on September 3, where Defense Minister General Tin Aung San announced plans to implement a National Service Information Management System (NSIMS) to oversee personal data for drafting purposes.
The system will collect and store personal data, including names, birthdates, addresses, and ID card information, for those eligible for military service. The data will be centrally managed on servers, and records of completed service will also be maintained. Relevant ministries will be responsible for coordinating to put this system into practice, according to the minister.
Under this system, the Central Committee aims to improve its drafting procedures by creating a comprehensive database. They plan to use various transportation methods, including military helicopters and aircraft, to bring new recruits from remote regions. Currently, the military has already launched drafts from batches 1 to 4, and this new system will further streamline the recruitment process.
