July 26, 2024

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged all relevant parties to cease hostilities in northern Myanmar as soon as possible, following the recent escalation of conflict in the region. Speaking at a regular press briefing on July 25, Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized China’s close monitoring of the situation and reiterated the need to prevent any impact on Chinese interests and security.

During the briefing, Mao Ning responded to questions from Reuters regarding the ongoing conflict in Myanmar, stating, “We urge all relevant parties to cease hostilities as soon as possible.” She further highlighted the importance of resolving disputes through peaceful means, avoiding further escalation, and ensuring the safety of Chinese nationals, businesses, and projects in Myanmar.

Mao Ning emphasized that China would continue to engage in discussions to promote peace in Myanmar and make efforts to maintain the ceasefire in northern regions. She also called for caution to avoid any incidents that could affect Chinese border areas and residents.

Earlier on the same day, the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and allied forces announced the complete capture of the northeastern military headquarters in Lashio, marking a significant development in the ongoing conflict.
