TNLA Urges Civilians to Dig Bomb Shelters and Avoid Travel Amid Ongoing Conflict

July 3, 2024

The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) has issued a warning to civilians to dig bomb shelters in their homes and avoid unnecessary travel due to ongoing military operations by the junta targeting civilians. This advisory was published in the editor’s column of the June issue of the TNLA News Bulletin.

Since June 25, the Brotherhood Alliance, which includes TNLA, and Spring Revolution forces have launched the second phase of Operation 1027 in towns such as Thibaw, Kyaukme, Naungcho, Mogok, and Mongmit. During this period, the military junta has intensified attacks on civilians, resulting in numerous casualties, the bulletin stated.

“Civilians should build bomb shelters in their homes, stay in safe places, and avoid unnecessary travel,” the TNLA emphasized. They also urged civilians to remain vigilant about military activities in their area.

In June alone, airstrikes and heavy artillery bombardments by the junta, including the use of 500-pound bombs, have led to the deaths of 25 civilians and injuries to 37 others in Hsibaw, Kyaukme, Naungcho, Mogok, and Mongmit, according to a statement by the PSLF/TNLA.

On the morning of July 3, additional clashes occurred near Lashio involving the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and junta forces. This resulted in civilian casualties due to artillery fire. At approximately 8 a.m., a house in Ward 1, Thaya Street, Lashio, was hit by artillery, resulting in the deaths of all six family members residing there.
