Tensions are escalating between the military and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in Lashio, northern Shan State, with a possibility of conflict, according to local sources on June 13.
Currently, there is continuous activity from the TNLA and allied groups surrounding Lashio, gradually tightening their presence around the city. Meanwhile, the military has been reinforcing its troops and arming local militia within the city.
“The military is bolstering its presence inside the city. The roads connecting Lashio with TNLA-controlled Namtu and Namhsan are being blocked,” a Lashio resident told New Day Myanmar.
“There are also rumors about the launch of Operation 0615,” he added.
Due to the potential for conflict in Lashio, some residents have started fleeing the city to avoid becoming war refugees.
Lashio, located in northern Shan State, is also the headquarters of the military’s Eastern Command.
