Starting at approximately 5:00 AM on August 10, resistance forces launched a major offensive, known as the “Myingyan District Special Operation,” across Myingyan, Nwarhtogyi, and Taungtha Townships. The operation targeted military camps, police stations, and government offices, with intense fighting continuing in the area.
In Nwarhtogyi Township, the military responded with airstrikes, resulting in the destruction of the Kanbawza Bank building and damage to several homes and government offices. Fires caused by the airstrikes led to power outages, and government offices, including the Revenue Office, Economic Bank, and Agricultural Bank, were reported to have been set ablaze. Communication lines, including phone and internet services, have been disrupted in the town.
A resident of Nwarhtogyi stated, “The town is nearly deserted, with most residents fleeing to nearby villages.” Reports indicate that military checkpoints along key roads have been extorting money from civilians. “The military checkpoint at Sarakkhan Gate is known for harassing travelers,” the resident added.
The resistance forces reported ongoing clashes with military forces, making it difficult to assess the overall situation. The Myingyan District has been heavily militarized, with the military frequently launching aggressive operations, leading to heightened security.
Resistance forces have urged civilians to avoid traveling along the Myingyan-Nwarhtogyi and Myingyan-Taungtha roads. The offensive reportedly involves joint efforts by Myingyan Black Tiger (MBT) Battalion 9, alongside other battalions within Myingyan District, LPDF, and PDF forces.
