Reports have surfaced indicating that the junta has formed a Security and Counterterrorism Oversight Committee, reportedly aimed at arresting and suppressing the population. Although the junta has not officially confirmed this directive, the alleged formation of the committee is said to be chaired by the Union Minister for Border Affairs, with the Deputy Minister of Defense and the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs serving as Vice-Chairpersons.
The committee’s primary responsibilities reportedly include establishing and overseeing supervisory bodies at various levels, including the Naypyidaw Council, regional/state levels, district levels, and township levels. Additionally, it is tasked with forming security and counterterrorism units at the ward/village tract level, monitoring the arming of these units, and drafting rules and procedures for their operations.
Furthermore, the committee is said to be responsible for coordinating frontline, rear, and logistical duties in line with ongoing military operations. It will also be tasked with rescuing wounded junta soldiers, as outlined in the reports circulating on social media since August 16.
