Over 10 Million Women in Myanmar Urgently Need Humanitarian Assistance

14 March 2026 | New Day Myanmar

More than 10 million women in Myanmar are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance due to the ongoing crises following the military coup, according to Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun.

He made the remarks while presenting the situation in Myanmar during a session of the Commission on the Status of Women held in New York, United States.

According to the ambassador, systematic violence against women has intensified since the coup, placing women in increasingly dangerous and insecure conditions.

He also pointed out that airstrikes carried out by junta forces have exposed civilians—including women—to severe security risks, and that such actions amount to crimes against humanity.

In addition, the junta’s forced military conscription has pushed many women into dangerous circumstances, while the number of women and girls forced to flee their homes continues to rise.

Given these conditions, Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun called on the international community to urgently cut off the supply of weapons and aviation fuel reaching the junta in order to halt the violence being committed against women.

He further urged timely and effective international action against the junta to protect the lives and property of the Myanmar people, and called for increased support for humanitarian initiatives led by women.
