The National League for Democracy (NLD) has expressed its gratitude to China for its efforts to facilitate a meeting with detained leader Aung San Suu Kyi, according to a recent statement.
The NLD’s statement acknowledged China’s attempts to secure a meeting with Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been in detention for over three years since the military coup. The party highlighted that China’s ongoing efforts to mediate this meeting are greatly appreciated.
In the statement, the NLD reiterated its stance that the current political crisis in Myanmar can only be resolved through political means, emphasizing that a solution cannot be reached without the involvement of Aung San Suu Kyi. The party underscored that Aung San Suu Kyi’s participation is crucial for any political reconciliation.
Furthermore, in the statement issued in commemoration of Aung San Suu Kyi’s 79th birthday, the NLD expressed its appreciation for China’s recognition and respectful engagement with the NLD. The party noted China’s supportive stance and efforts towards democratic processes in Myanmar.
Since the coup, the military junta has not disclosed the exact location where Aung San Suu Kyi is being detained. Despite numerous requests from international leaders and organizations, including China, the junta has consistently denied access for meetings with Aung San Suu Kyi.
The NLD’s statement also indicated that China’s persistent efforts to facilitate a meeting with Aung San Suu Kyi are seen as supportive of the democratic movement in Myanmar, and the party expressed its deep gratitude for these endeavors.
