Myanmar has ranked second on the Global Conflict Index for the first half of 2024, as reported by the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED) on August 6.
The conflict index considers factors such as fatalities, the danger to civilians, the spread of conflict, and the number of armed groups involved. ACLED evaluates these criteria every six months to rank countries accordingly.
During the first half of 2024, Myanmar ranked third in terms of fatalities, fourth for civilian danger, ninth for the spread of conflict, and first for the number of armed groups involved.
Despite maintaining these rankings since January 2024, Myanmar dropped from the first to the second position on the global conflict index. The report highlights that nearly 23 million people, about 43% of Myanmar’s population, are affected by these conflicts.
ACLED is an independent international organization based in the United States that monitors and collects data on conflicts worldwide.
