Myanmar Military Bombs Civilians in Mrauk U After Over Six Months of No Clashes

August 11, 2024

A Myanmar military airstrike hit a residential area in Mrauk U, Rakhine State, around 12:30 PM on August 10, killing six civilians, including a woman and a young child, and injuring ten others, according to a statement from the Arakan Army (AA).

The airstrike targeted an area near the Mrauk U Hotel, with bombs striking a road and a nearby slow-moving vehicle (known locally as “tut-tut”) carrying passengers. The blast killed six civilians and left ten others injured.

This latest attack follows another airstrike on August 6 at 2:30 AM, when the military bombed a hospital where civilians were receiving medical treatment. The town of Mrauk U had experienced 185 days without any military clashes prior to these incidents, making it a relatively safe zone until now.
