The Myanmar military junta launched 26 airstrikes in a single day on Naungcho and Thibaw townships in northern Shan State, according to a statement by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA).
On August 13, 2024, which marked the 50th day of the second phase of Operation 1027, the military carried out these airstrikes, intensifying its offensive against TNLA forces. Ongoing clashes are reported in Naunglin village, involving units from Infantry Battalion 302, 325, and 306 under the 99th Light Infantry Division, Eastern Command, and Central Command.
In Naungcho Township, the junta’s forces conducted 12 airstrikes, including one with a jet fighter and 11 with Y-12 transport planes, dropping a total of 85 bombs. Similarly, in Thibaw Township, the military carried out nine airstrikes, one with a jet fighter and eight with Y-12 planes, dropping 44 bombs on positions around Infantry Battalion 23.
Additionally, in Mantong Township, although there were no direct clashes, the junta bombed the civilian area of Man Sa village, using a jet fighter to drop five bombs, including a powerful 500-pound bomb, targeting civilian populations.
The TNLA’s statement highlights the ongoing and severe nature of the conflict in northern Shan State, where civilian areas continue to suffer from the military’s relentless airstrikes.
