In southern Chin State, the Myanmar military has continued intense aerial bombing and heavy artillery shelling on Mindat for the third consecutive day. Sources report that artillery shells fired from Infantry Battalion 274 have hit residential areas near the east of the town and set houses ablaze close to the Mindat Hotel area.
The clashes in Mindat reportedly began on November 9 between junta forces and the Chin resistance alliance, with heavy fighting intensifying in the area. Local residents mentioned that the military has been deploying airstrikes and regularly dropping bombs from the sky.
“On the night of the 10th, a Y12 aircraft dropped about 10 parachute bags containing weapons, rations, and drone bombs. Some bags landed near the central camp, and others near the 3-Mile Junction, and they had signal flares,” said one resident on social media.
On November 9, there were at least six airstrikes, and in the early morning of November 10, over 50 bombs were reportedly dropped. A resident also noted that bombing continued on November 11, with possibly hundreds of bombs in total.
“It could be around 80 or even 90 bombs. There’s a hotel and a Christian church near where the shells landed. They might be targeting intentionally. Homes have been burning since the fighting started,” a local resident told New Day Myanmar.
The Chin Defense Force (CDF) of Mindat, part of the Chin resistance alliance, has announced their military operations to capture Mindat.
