Intense fighting between the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) and the junta forces in Inndaw Township, Sagaing Region, has forced thousands of local residents to flee for safety. According to local sources, clashes have been ongoing since August 16, with the situation worsening by August 19 as fighting spread into the town itself.

“With the battles now reaching the town, many residents are fleeing to safer areas. The number of people fleeing could be over 10,000,” a local resident of Inndaw told New Day Myanmar.

The junta has been using heavy artillery and airstrikes against the town, which has caused even more residents to flee, the resident added.

In addition to Inndaw, fierce fighting has also been reported in nearby Pinlebu Township from August 14 to 19, adding to the instability in the region.
