Drone Strike by Junta Kills 6, Including Healthcare Worker, at Thanaung Kone Clinic in Butalin Township

July 12, 2024

A drone strike by the junta on Thanaung Kone Village Clinic in Butalin Township, Monywa, has resulted in the deaths of six people, including a healthcare worker. The attack followed a bombing of the PDF checkpoint on the Monywa-Ye-U road, which injured several people.

Among the deceased were five members of the local defense force who were receiving treatment for their injuries at the clinic, as well as a nurse, according to local sources.

“A nurse was among the deceased. The attack likely came from Namkham since it’s not far from the area. The junta forces are patrolling the roads,” a resident of Alon Township told New Day Myanmar.

Additionally, on the morning of July 11, another drone strike targeted a school and a betel nut shop in Taung Yat Shey Village, Butalin Township, resulting in one injury.

Since the military coup three years ago, the junta has attacked and destroyed 343 hospitals and clinics, according to a statement by the National Unity Government (NUG) on April 28, 2024.
