Prominent protest leader Dr. Teza San, known for his early involvement in the Spring Revolution, led a flash protest in downtown Mandalay today, July 22. He shared photos of the protest on his social media, captioning them with, “These photos are of our revolutionary warriors seen in their golden city during these days.”
On his social media page, Dr. Teza San posted under the title “Return to the Historic City” or “People’s Struggle Movements in the Golden City,” urging the public to intensify the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) and the “Boycott and Social Punishment” campaigns. The posts received numerous supportive comments, with many expressing admiration and solidarity. One commenter mentioned feeling a surge of pride and determination, while another noted the fear among some participants who fled the scene.
Following the protest, Mandalay saw heightened security measures, with military and police vehicles patrolling the streets and conducting searches. Local sources reported an increased presence of plainclothes officers and security forces, leading to a tense atmosphere in the city. “We didn’t know why at first, but now we realize it’s because Dr. Teza San was here,” a Mandalay resident told New Day Myanmar.
Dr. Teza San emphasized the importance of balancing military and civilian efforts in the revolution. “To end this fight early, we need a balanced approach combining military actions with people’s struggles, public uprisings, and resistance movements. Relying solely on military tactics won’t suffice. We need to escalate the people’s struggle and public mobilization alongside military efforts to achieve our goals,” he urged.
This flash protest underscores the ongoing resistance against the military regime and highlights the continued resolve of the Burmese people to fight for democracy and justice.
