August 31, 2024

U Tun Tun Hein, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, who was recently released from Lashio Prison, will resume his party duties, according to U Bo Bo Oo, a representative from the National League for Democracy (NLD) in Sanchaung Township. The announcement was made through U Bo Bo Oo’s social media page.

During his meeting with party officials, U Tun Tun Hein expressed his readiness to take on party responsibilities if assigned. U Tun Tun Hein is a member of the NLD’s Central Executive Committee and had addressed party members before the interim 4th Central Committee meeting.

U Tun Tun Hein was arrested by the military following the February 1, 2021, coup and was sentenced to 33 years in prison under multiple charges, including Section 122. He was held in Lashio Prison.

His release came after the MNDAA-led allied forces attacked military units stationed at Lashio Prison on July 28, freeing political prisoners and other detainees.

The NLD’s interim 4th Central Committee meeting is scheduled to be held on August 31, 2024, at 9:00 AM via Zoom.
