Intense fighting has broken out between the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) and the Myanmar military in Nwahtogyi Township, Mandalay Region, with the military resorting to airstrikes, a local resident confirmed to New Day Myanmar.
The clashes, which began in the afternoon of August 9, have continued to rage through August 10. The PDFs have reportedly seized control of the Nwahtogyi General Administration Office and the police station, effectively surrounding and closing off the town, according to ground reports.
“The fighting is intense, and the military is conducting airstrikes with bombs,” a Nwahtogyi resident told New Day Myanmar.
In addition to the conflict in Nwahtogyi, similar clashes have erupted in Myinchan and Taungtha Townships within the Mandalay Region. The PDFs have blocked roads in these areas, intensifying the ongoing conflict.
