The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (PSLF/TNLA) has reportedly received a warning from China, demanding an immediate ceasefire. According to the Shan State-based Shwe Phee Myay News Agency, the Chinese government issued the threat, stating that failure to comply would result in more severe consequences.
The letter, allegedly sent by the National Security Committee of Ruili, Yunnan Province, on August 29, 2024, warns that China is prepared to take further punitive measures if the TNLA does not cease hostilities. The letter emphasizes the importance of maintaining peace and stability in northern Myanmar and along the China-Myanmar border.
The letter expresses China’s expectation that the TNLA will cooperate to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens, Chinese-owned businesses, and civilians in the border areas. The TNLA is urged to avoid actions that could jeopardize the security of these entities.
Failure to comply, the letter warns, will result in China taking necessary actions to “teach a lesson,” and the TNLA will be held responsible for any resulting consequences. The communication also stresses the need for the TNLA to work towards peace in collaboration with China and to return to a path of resolving differences through dialogue.
China’s involvement is described as a supportive role in the peace process in northern Myanmar, with a commitment to helping establish a stable and secure environment conducive to development.
The authenticity of the letter, purportedly from the National Security Committee in Ruili, has not yet been confirmed or denied by Chinese authorities.
