August 19, 2024

Amid severe flooding in Mone (Mooe) and Kyaukkyi (Lehdoe) Townships in Nyaunglebin District, Bago Region, junta forces have reportedly targeted civilian areas with heavy artillery and drones, resulting in injuries to five civilians, according to a statement by the Karen National Union (KNU).

On August 15, junta troops from Outphe (Utphat) Camp carried out a drone strike on Kyattak Nyaungpin Village, causing injuries to two civilians. On the same day, Battalion 307 fired a 122mm artillery shell at Taline Khin Village, while Battalion 264 launched two artillery shells—122mm and 120mm—at Yawthaukone, Ngazea Inn, and Kanyin Kyaw villages, injuring three more civilians.

On the night of August 16, Battalion 264 again used drones to bomb Yawthaukone Village, according to the KNU’s official statement released on August 19.

In addition to these attacks, the flood-affected villagers are in urgent need of emergency assistance due to the ongoing flooding, according to a statement by the Karen Emergency Relief Committee in Lehdoe and Mone Townships.
