123 Surrender in Depayin Town Seizure Battle, Confirmed by People’s Defense Forces

August 18, 2024

During the battle for Depayin, a total of 123 individuals surrendered, raising white flags and laying down their arms, according to a statement released by the Sagaing Region People’s Defense Forces (PDF) on August 18, 2024. The PDF, under the command of the Shwebo District Control Group within Military Region 1, led the operation alongside various battalions from Shwebo District, Depayin, and Butalin People’s Defense Forces.

The PDF forces successfully captured Depayin town at 6:45 AM after intense combat against the military junta and Pyu Saw Htee militias. The statement confirms that while some junta soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee members managed to flee, the 123 individuals who surrendered have been taken into custody.

Among those who surrendered are two Pyu Saw Htee members, 41 non-CDM (Civil Disobedience Movement) employees, and 80 family members. The PDF has ensured their safety and is providing necessary medical care within the town.

Furthermore, the PDF forces from Ye U and Depayin have effectively intercepted a junta reinforcement convoy from Ye U and continue to engage in combat, as confirmed by the Sagaing Region People’s Defense Forces.

This marks a significant victory for the resistance forces, making Depayin the first town in the lower Sagaing region to be seized by PDF forces.
