US Government Meets with NUG, NUCC, and Ethnic Armed Organizations

Tom Sullivan, Senior Advisor for the U.S. Department of State, and Michael Schiffer, Assistant Administrator of USAID, held an online meeting on August 16 with representatives from the National Unity Government (NUG), the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC), and ethnic armed organizations, including the Karen National Union (KNU), the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), and the Chin National Front (CNF), according to a statement released by the U.S. government.

During the meeting, Sullivan and Schiffer praised the efforts of these groups in working towards the establishment of a federal democratic Myanmar. They reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting democratic unity and providing humanitarian aid to those in need.

Sullivan emphasized that the U.S. would continue to expand its direct support to those striving for democracy and pledged to hold accountable any party or group responsible for human rights violations and atrocities.
