The junta has issued a statement on July 12 urging the return of Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) workers who left their posts for various reasons following the 2021 coup. The junta announced that these workers might have their blacklisted status revoked and receive leniency based on individual circumstances.

The statement acknowledged that some government employees left their jobs without permission, resulting in blacklisting and causing significant human resource losses for the state. The junta expressed concern that these workers’ social lives were also adversely affected.

“I don’t believe what they’re saying. I urge other CDM workers not to trust them either. If they truly wanted us back, they would have done this much earlier. I think they have some ulterior motive,” a CDM teacher from Moenyo Township, Bago Region, told New Day Myanmar.

The junta’s announcement stated that relevant departments must report the status of these workers starting from July 15. While the junta has previously maintained a strict policy towards CDM participants, political analysts suggest that the recent instability in military and administrative operations may have prompted this move towards leniency.

Since the coup in 2021, numerous government employees, including some military personnel, have joined the CDM in protest against the junta’s rule.
