In the first six months of 2024, junta forces have killed 72 civilians in Mon State, with an additional 138 injured and 76 detained, according to a report by the New Mon State Party’s (NMSP) media outlet, Lagong Eain magazine.
Among the fatalities, 19 were women and 53 were men. The injuries included 54 women and 84 men. Of those detained, 19 were women and 57 were men. The majority of these incidents occurred in conflict-heavy townships such as Kyaikto, Bilin, Thaton, Kyaikmaraw, and Ye.
The report highlighted that over 15% of the injured were children. In the same period, there were 113 clashes between junta forces and resistance groups. Kyaikmaraw Township experienced the most clashes with 27 incidents, followed by Kyaikto and Ye with 25 each, Bilin with 13, Thanbyuzayat with 9, Thaton with 7, and Mudon with 4.
The junta conducted over 30 airstrikes in Mon State during this period, with 19 in Kyaikmaraw and 9 in Ye. These airstrikes resulted in the destruction of 591 civilian homes and 8 religious buildings.
