The recent airstrike on Kutkai town by the military junta has resulted in the death of six locals and injuries to ten others, with over 400 shops damaged, according to a statement by the TNLA (Ta’ang National Liberation Army).
On the afternoon of August 5, at around 3:00 PM, the military junta conducted four air raids, dropping seven 500-pound bombs on Kutkai town despite no active combat in the area. The bombs hit residential areas in Wards 5 and 8, killing five civilians instantly, with another succumbing to injuries later, and injuring ten others.
The attack caused significant damage to the town’s central market, with 401 shops destroyed by the resulting fires. Additionally, at least ten homes were damaged due to the blasts and subsequent fires.
The PSLF/TNLA’s Kutkai Fire Brigade managed to extinguish the fires in the central market. The TNLA has also taken measures to ensure security in the market area to prevent looting and theft amidst the chaos.
This incident highlights the ongoing violence and targeting of civilian areas by the military junta, resulting in severe casualties and property damage.
